Sliding on your front, head first:

ice axe self arrestJab the pick of the axe into the snow, out as far as you can reach at shoulder level (It is important not to place it in front of your head).
Use this as a pivot to swing your legs around into the feet first position.
Remove the pick and bring the axe into the self arrest position.
